Pikey Peak Trek – When to Go?

As this is the short trek near Kathmandu valley, Pikey peak can be done all around the year. But, Autumn and Spring are the best time for experiencing the best sunrise views, clear skies, festivals and rhododendron flowers.

Pikey Peak Trek in Autumn

Trekking to Pikey peak during Autumn season (September, October and November) is the good time for Everest view. This is the time of Nepalese greatest festivals like Teej, Dashain, Tihar and Chhath. So, there is a heady mix of nature with culture.

Autumn is the time where there will be neither hot nor cold. So, weather at that will be good to walk. The skies are blue and clear sunny days to explore the scenic mountains and nature.

The daily cost of the trekking is approximately $30 per day and it includes lodge and food. But, the cost might be a little bit high if you go with a government registered trekking company with a licensed guide and porter.

If you want to go independently, you can travel via jeep departed from Chahabil, Kathmandu.

Food on Pikey Peak Trek

Nepal has a variety of different foods. You can expect the dishes as per your choice during trekking. But, in Pikey peak, Very commonly, most of the tea houses, community home-stay, lodges and guest houses offer Dal Bhat. Generally, most of the trekking is based on tea houses where the accommodation will be basic. You need to pay extra for wifi and hot showers, but this will be in small amount.

But, in Kathmandu before departure to trekking and after, you will have choices to stay in Super luxury hotels to budget guest houses. Most of the hotels in Kathmandu have the basic amenities like air conditioning, television, free wifi and hot/cold showers with private bathroom.

Pikey Peak Difficulty

Pikey peak trek is a non touristy trekking route and the best for beginners. The daily walking will be easier. You will walk around 4-6 hours a day during trekking. While, ascending to the Pikey peak (4070m), you may feel challenging, but your guide will make you comfortable for you.

Drive in Fly Out

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1350 m), transfer to Hotel.
Day 2: Drive to Dhap, Trek to Japre (2920 m), 4 hours drive.
Day 3: Trek from Japre to Pikey Base Camp (3640 m), 6-7 hours walk.
Day 4: Sunrise at Pikey Peak, Trek to Loding (2515 m), 8-9 hours walk.
Day 5: Trek from Loding to Junbesi, Visit Thubtenchoeling Monastery, 4-5 hours walk.
Day 6: Trek from Junbesi to Taksindu (2960 m), 5-6 hours walk.
Day 7: Trek from Taksindu to Phaplu, Visit Chiwong Monastery  (2459 m), 5-6 hours walk.
Day 8: Flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu (1350 m), transfer to Hotel.
