Pikey peak trek is probably the best short trek near Kathmandu for the best mountain views including the top of the world Mount Everest.

Pikey peak trekking is also compared with another view point Poon Hill in Annapurna region near Pokhara. Pikey peak trek is less crowded excellent with spectacular mountain views.

Mountains like Mount Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Gauri Shanker, Lhotse, Khatang, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Mera Peak are visible clearly from the atop 4100m high.

Pikey Peak Trek – When to Go

As this is the short trek near Kathmandu valley, Pikey peak can be done all around the year. But, Autumn and Spring are the best time for experiencing the best sunrise views, clear skies, festivals and rhododendron flowers.

Pikey Peak Trek in Autumn

Trekking to Pikey peak during Autumn season (September, October and November) is the good time for Everest view. This is the time of Nepalese greatest festivals like Teej, Dashain, Tihar and Chhath. So, there is a heady mix of nature with culture.

Autumn is the time where there will be neither hot nor cold. So, weather at that will be good to walk. The skies are blue and clear sunny days to explore the scenic mountains and nature.

Pikey Peak Trek in Winter

December, January and February are the winter months in Nepal. As pikey peak is lower altitude trek, it can be done even in winter. But, there will be snowfall during the mid-winter in January. So, if you like adventure and want to play snow, visit Pikey peak in winter. There will be possibilities of ski trek during winter in Nepal.

Pikey peak Trek in Spring

This is the second most popular time for trekking in Nepal. March, April and May falls in Spring season. Pikey peak trek during spring will be good to experience the rhododendron trail and Buddhist festivals. The skies are clear enough to view the mountains. Flights to Phaplu are regular as weather is clear.

Food on Pikey Peak Trek

Generally, Nepal has a variety of different foods. You can expect the dishes as per your choice during trekking. But, in Pikey peak, Very commonly, most of the tea houses, community home-stay, lodges and guest houses offer Dal Bhat. Dal Bhat is very popular in Nepal as national food and most of the trekker love to eat it.

Dal Bhat is a mixture of lentil soup and rice, a healthy food in Nepal. Dal Bhat power, 24 hour is a popular proverb in Nepal.

Accommodation on Pikey Peak Trek

Generally, most of the trekking is based on tea houses where the accommodation will be basic. You will be staying in a tea house with a sharing room, no heating, no showers and common bathroom. Wifi and communication will be only accessed in few guest houses. You need to pay extra for wifi and hot showers, but this will be in small amount.

But, in Kathmandu before departure to trekking and after, you will have choices to stay in Super luxury hotels to budget guest houses. Most of the hotels in Kathmandu have the basic amenities like air conditioning, television, free wifi and hot/cold showers with private bathroom. 

Pikey Peak Difficulty

Pikey peak trek is a non touristy trekking route and the best for beginners. The daily walking will be easier. You will walk around 4-6 hours a day during trekking. While, ascending to the Pikey peak (4070m), you may feel challenging, but your guide will make you comfortable for you.

Altitude Sickness

While trekking in Himalayas, there might be risk of getting altitude sickness. If you are not a experienced hiker, you may have. Even, experienced trekker and hiker may have altitude sickness. Pikey Peak Trek Booking

You can book pikey peak trek through online by submitting booking form from our website. After submitting booking form, you need to pay 25% of the total cost as advance. This advance money goes for pre-booking your hotels, flights, transportation and other paper works before your arrival in Nepal. Rest of money, you can pay while you are in Nepal.

Pikey Peak Ultra Marathon on April

Okhaldhunga Tourism Development Committee is to organize half ultra-marathon on April 6 on the 21 kilomters route of Pikey Peak.

According to the organiser, the trail race will kick off from the altitude of 4,200 m on Pikey Peak and will go through the scenic Tholedemba ridge before culminating in Khijiphalate Bazaar at an altitude of 2,500 m at Khijidemba Rural Municipality in Okhaldhunga district on April 6.

The aim of the ultra marathon will be to promote the short and easy trek, Pikey Peak Trek.

More than 50 national and international athletes are expected to tak part in the marathon. The top three athletes in both men and women categories will receive NRs 50,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively, according to Sherpa.
